IFLA Language Classes: An Overview

I.  Types of Classes

IFLA offers three types of language classes:

          - Private Lessons

          - Public Group Classes

          - Immersion Classes

Not all languages are available for all types of classes.  Please refer to the rate card or current IFLA group class schedule for availability.

II. Private Classes

Private classes may be one-on-one or semi-private (“private group”) classes.  These are available to children and adults of all ages.  Students select their own schedule and a customized syllabus is created for them.  These classes are available seven days per week.

III. Public Group Classes

Our regular Public Group classes are groups of 3-8 students.  Registration is open to the general public.  The minimum age is 16.  Classes are scheduled Monday - Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.  The minimum registration for these classes is 3 students.

We offer two children's public group classes: Spanish for the Family and Spanish Explorers.  Each class has a minimum registration of 4 and a maximum registration of 8.  Children ages 3-5 may register for Spanish for the Family with a parent or guardian, while children ages 6-10 may register for Spanish Explorers.

IV. Immersion Classes

Immersion classes are intensive private lessons.  Students are in class 7.5 hours per day.  They work with multiple instructors.  Lunch is provided.  The minimum age is 16.  A week of immersion is scheduled Monday - Friday, but weekend immersions may be available.  Students may attend for just one day or for up to six weeks.

V.  Pricing

Private classes are sold in packages of hours (6, 12, 24, 48, 72 or 96).  This information is available on the IFLA Rate Card. Please contact us to request a current IFLA Rate Card.

Immersion classes are sold by the day or by the hour.  This information is also available on the IFLA Rate Card.

Public Group Classes are $180.00 per session.  Each session is 8 weeks long.  Classes meet one evening per week for 1.5 hours.  Current exceptions to this are:

          Intensive Conversational Spanish 1 - $180.00 – 3 weeks, twice/week, 2 hrs

          Intensive Conversational Spanish 2 - $180.00 – 3 weeks, twice/week, 2 hrs

None of the prices given on the IFLA Rate Card include materials such as textbooks.  This is also true of the course fee for public group classes.  Book prices vary depending on the language, proficiency level and student/course goals.  For most students, books will be between $15 and $30, but depending on the language and length of private lessons or an immersion the price may be much higher.  Please contact us for estimated book costs.

VII. Scheduling

Private Classes (and Semi-Private or “Private Group” Classes) are schedule based on the preference of the student, pending instructor availability.  These classes are available 7 days per week, with start times between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.  Students are usually able to start private classes within one week of registration.  Students select a weekly schedule at the time of registration by indicating their preferred days of the week and times of day.  If the student has specific dates when he or she would like the private or semi-private lessons to be held, these should be indicated on the registration form in lieu of the weekly schedule preference.

Immersion Classes are scheduled for 7.5 hours per day, with starting times between 8 and 9:30 a.m.  A one-week immersion is scheduled Monday – Friday.  Weekend immersions may be possible pending instructor availability.  Immersion classes require at least 2 weeks advance notice.  A one-week immersion must be used as 5 consecutive days and cannot be broken up or divided.

Public Group Classes are pre-scheduled.  These dates and times are not changed with the exception of the full consensus of the entire class and instructor after the determined start date.
